TSMC Announces $100B Investment in US: TSMC announced on Monday they will build three advanced fabs in Arizona over the next four years. They predict creation of 40,000 construction jobs and tens of thousands of tech jobs. This adds to the $65B TSMC previously invested in building three fabs in Arizona, one of which started volume production late 2024.
Nvidia and Broadcom Testing Intel’s Foundry Capabilities: Nvidia and Broadcom are both reportedly testing partial chip designs on Intel’s new 18A process node which is intended to compete with TSMC for manufacturing AI chips. AMD is also showing interest in Intel’s foundry services. Intel’s stock rose 6% following the news on Monday.
Onsemi Considering Purchasing Allegro Microsystems: Neither onsemi nor Allegro commented on the matter.
Layoffs Continue: Microchip will cut 2,000 jobs, 9% of its workforce. This will include mostly fab workers. Onsemi will cut 2,400 jobs over 2025 through a restructuring.
